This is a beautifully lyrical novel and listening to it read by the author was a great experience. Unfortunately I missed the bookclub discussion on this one (first one I've missed in years!) but I will have to hear what the others thought of it when we meet again next month.

I almost always love Toni Morrison, but I found this book so disjointed that it was a big distraction for me. Once I read and reread the opening chapters of the book, I finally found the thread of the story and could move through it. Sometimes Toni Morrison takes herself too seriously as an author, I think. Complication doesn't make for a great book!!
