This is a book that I was initially very excited about reading so I plunged right in and then stopped, distracted by other books that needed to be read by a certain date (bookclub and a list for YART that I was working on)so I put it aside.

I just read this book in two days while I was on vacation. It was one of the loveliest books I've read in a long time. As the mother of a 14-year old boy, I appreciated the voice of the 13-year-old protagonist and the story made me laugh, cry and absolutely held my attention through every page. Maynard does a wonderful job of describing how one long weekend and the themes of adolescent angst, the bond between mother and son, and the struggle to know what is right on so many levels.
