What Members Thought
This novel won the Whitbread Prize, and I'm a fan of Tremaine's writing, so I had to get this. I really did enjoy it, especially the main character who I especially liked. The main character leaves a small Ukrainian village for London to try to make money for a better life for his mother and his daughter. Intriguing characters make this more than your typical "immigrant faces difficulties" novel, and I liked the ending, which was believable rather than schmaltzy.
