This is my third Kristin Hannah book, and while it may have been slightly too long, I did love the fact that the story took the two main characters from young girls through adulthood. As I am about the same age as Kate and Tully, I enjoyed the pop culture references that were woven through the book from beginning to end.
As a mother of a teenager, I also related to Kate and Mara's difficult relationship and thought Hannah handled it very realistically.

My friend, Tammy recommended this book to me and I recommended it to my book club who read it this month. It was very easy to settle in to this book and be taken back to the days of my own childhood. I loved how the author brought in songs to the story as she took you through each decade. Songs can definately take you back to a time and place as soon as you hear it. I loved this book. I just spent the afternoon crying as I finished it. The 2 main characters are girls from the 70's to today. Both friends travel down different career paths, at times wanting or envying the others choices, but knowing they couldn't and wouldn't change. The big plus, of course, was they were born the same year as I was. I really identified with their choices and consequences of their actions.

I can't remember the last time a book actually made me cry, but this one did (several times). Despite it being so sad, I loved it. I would have read it all in one day if I could have.
