I have been wanting to read this book for quite awhile. It is on all the "Book Club Lists" and "Must Read Lists" and has won a Pulitzer Prize. I figured it had to be good and so it was chosen as our book club pick this month. I am looking forward to hearing what everyone thought next week.

Each chapter is like a short story revolving around a character or characters in the town of Crosby, Maine. At some point, Olive Kitteridge weaves her way into their story as well sometimes in a big way and oth

This just won a Pulitzer? From who? I'd like a prize for getting through this book. Perhaps my dislike stems from all the hype about how fabulous the book is supposed to be. Dry as dust, a motley crew of unlikable characters, short story-ish with not one of any great appeal. I kept hoping for redemption; alas, my reward for finishing it today was finding out it won the prize. ...more

I loved this book just as much the second time around. And having just read the second one, it was fun knowing what becomes of some of the characters. Now I want to go and re-read the second one again.

p.s. The miniseries was AMAZING! If you've read the book and loved it, then watch the miniseries.

I absolutely loved this book. It's been a long time since a book has captured my attention this much. Although all of the individual stories were a little sad and depressing, the writer did a great job

Since I had already read the book, I decided to listen to the audiobook and I was almost finished with it when it had to be returned (probably someone else from my bookclub waiting for it!)Anyway, the audio was good but I didn't always like how the narrator voice the title character. ...more

If I could give a rating of 3.5, I would. This book is like a bunch of short stories where Olive and her husband, Henry, are always somehow involved. I liked Olive in some stories and in others I couldn't stand her. The book is very well written. Some of the stories are depressing. ...more

Thirteen interconnected stories, all of which have Olive Kitteridge in them. Olive is a retired teacher in a small Maine town and the stories reflect the complicated relationships Olive has with those in town who have crossed her path over the years. One of my favorites for 2008!

I was not impressed. I found Olive to be very unpleasant and I just couldn't bring myself to care about her. The book only got worse when the author decided to get some digs in at President Bush, which was rather gratuitous and uncalled for. Reading this was a waste of time. At least I got it from the library and didn't buy it, which makes me feel a little better. ...more

At first I didn't think I liked the character of Olive Kitteridge because she seemed really mean-spirited but during the course of the series of short stories, I learned more about her and began to understand her. This is definitely one that I will suggest to other readers. ...more

I really liked this unusual book. You learn about Olive through short stories ranging from just a glimpse to being the main character. You don't always like her, but you do get a full and textured view of her and root for her to be happy.

Definitely recommend.

This was a different type of book as in there were 12 different stories, that wrapped around a central charater-Olive Kitteridge. Olive is a different type of person. Not totally likable, kinda querky.
