This was a pretty interesting book. Granted, I didn't understand everything with the technology discussed but I feel like I have a better understanding of what can happen after a terrorist attack and what America went through to a large extent after September 11. Since I live in San Francisco right now, it was weird reading a fictionalized story about a terrorist attack on San Fran. Awesome book - I feel sorry for myself I only read it now. Download, give it to your kids (and maybe to your non-born digital parents!) to read. Teachers and school administrators: it's a must to read. Then order printed for your classroom.

Great! Awesome! Super! Neat-o!

Little Brother is the aptly named homage to all manners of Utopian sci-fi novels (most notably 1984).

The writing is superb. The book zooms along at a wonderful pace. It is hilarious, heartbreaking and thought-provoking. A must read for teens and adults.

I promise it was an accident that I finished this book on the anniversary of September 11.

And what a way to remember this world tragedy and analyze the effects of terrorism not just on our national security, but on what cyber security, privacy, and patriotism mean. Little Brothers started off well and the issues raised are timely and essential--the perceived needs of security versus the individual's constitutional rights--need discussion and examination. Unfortunately the writing didn't rise to the occassion. The technical issues were pretty well done and communicated well; but the characters became cardboard and the sex scenes just silly. I think Doctorow wants San Francisco in the 60s back. Well, actually, I do too--except for the computers and stuff. ...more
