SkyClan's Destiny (Warriors Super Edition, #3) in Cats

I feel there is a reason the fandom of Warrior cats almost never mention this book, whether be it in tier ranking lists, or when people give recommendations to newcomers in which order to read this series. This is a bit unique, as it focuses more on inner clan struggles than outsider dangers.

Pros: Sharpclaw. Unpopular opinion, but he's truly been my favorite feline in this book, because he discriminates, uses insulting nicknames (such as "kittypets") and is grumpy towards many clan members. Pros: Sharpclaw. Unpopular opinion, but he's truly been my favorite feline in this book, because he discriminates, uses insulting nicknames (such as "kittypets") and is grumpy towards many clan members. Nice contrast, despite many other fans complaining about him. But look at it this way, it keeps the series more realistic and refreshing. We can't expect every character to be overly positive and accepting of everyone. It is healthy for a series to have morally grey characters, or characters "on the good side" acting like jerks to newer memebrs. It is accurate to what we see in the real world. He also in my eyes helped strengthen the clan, and was shown to have some empathy if one pays attention to him.

Cons: slow pacing for the first few chapters, the focus on the cats training to become warriors and felines who have recently earned the warrior rank - for me personally, was incredibly boring.

Sometimes the language is beautiful and helped expand my English vocabulary, but the over use of "stupid" and "stupidly" began to irk me. It could of used any other words, such as "ridiculous, atrocious, tiresome, asinine, absurd", etc. So sometimes, the vocabulary/wording got dry or repetitive in some areas. As a writer myself, I really would of refrained from over using certain things, such as how cats express anger with their fur standing up shouldn't have been used nearly as frequently. I would of at least worded it with new synonyms every time that gesture was brought up.

Overall, okay book. Sadly, for some reason this was the first book I bought as a teen, so it wasn't the best way to start getting into the series, while I waited for the Warriors: The Prophecies Begin to arrive.

Just start with the first 2 arcs from this series, then read Firestar's Quest and after that, Bluestar's Prophecy. ...more

I <3 the cat books, what can I say? I really liked getting to know Skyclan. The "voice" of the narrative was quite different then they typical clan cats. I like how they integrate themselves with twolegs and daylight warriors. I hope we keep learning of them going forward. I'm going to read the manga's next I think. ...more
