I put this off for so long! Cyborgs just don’t sound appealing to me, and as much as I love Cinderella, I was pretty sure I was going to hate it. My desire to read it was at 0. But with so many people telling me that I had to read it and that I would adore it, I caved! End result? I really enjoyed this one.

This book was an actual great read.
I honestly didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
I was thinking to myself "Yeah...it's good. I'll give it 4 stars"
But no, it just got better.
I think Cinder's character is great. She is definitely one of my favourites.
There wasn't a lot of romance either, which was surprising.
Overall, very good.

This book was more than what I expected it to be. Although, very early on in the book I did figure out the big plot twist I still enjoyed every bit of it and once I got to the end I still felt surprised. I love how Marissa Meyer did the Cinderella retelling it has a very unique feel to it. This is definitely a must read!

I wondered if I would like this as much at twenty-one as I did at fifteen and seventeen, and I'm pleased to inform you that I didn't. I think I noticed more because I don't remember noticing how political it was and how this definitely discusses illegal immigration.

This was a spontaneous reread on my part because I was really inspired by reading "Little Red Riding Hood". I don't know who doesn't know, but Cinder is a retelling of Cinderella with a science fiction twist. This world takes place in the future. I don't know how late, but late enough for there to have been four world wars. Since World War IV, the world has changed government-wise. Now there is this thing called the Earthen Union, which is an alliance between the six different continents. Cinder takes place in the Eastern Commonwealth, which is Asia. And in the Eastern Commonwealth (and really the whole Earthen Union) is getting caught in this illness called letumosis. Prince Kai's dad has fallen sick with letumosis and the whole continent is going crazy. And then we have Cinder, who is a cyborg mechanic. The best mechanic in New Beijing. The problem is that cyborgs aren't well-liked because the humans believe that they are going to take over the world and leave humans poor and such. So Cinder doesn't tell anyone. She has her own business but all her money goes to her evil step-mother. Her step-mother hates her and believes that Cinder is trying to destroy the family. So when Cinder's younger step-sister falls ill with letumosis, her step-mother forces Cinder to be used as a test subject for this. At the same time, the Earthen Union is trying to deal with the Lunars.

I really liked the world and the way it was built. It is just so interesting. That and I'm a complete sucker for fairytale retellings. The way this world is built is so unique. I've never really read any science fictions quite like this book. It is so unique. (To be fair I don't read many science fiction books.) and it isn't even like any fairytale retellings I've read (since I don't think there are many science fiction versions.). Marissa Meyer takes the story and makes it her own. It obviously has the typical Cinderella stuff, but it's not too much like Cinderella. A+ world building. That was definitely the strong point of this book.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about the characters. I've never been a huge fan of Cinderella. Her and Snow White are my two least favorite Disney Princesses (probably because they were from the phase when Disney made every female lead a Mary Sue). I had a hard time separating the characters from their Disney counterparts. There were somethings that Cinder, Adri, Pearl, and Kai said that really reminded me of the Disney characters and I don't know why, but I would get really mad whenever they did that. So there are some Prince Kai/Cinder scenes where I'd just get really mad because Cinder would be like "Prince Kai, I love you" in her head and then she would be like "No, get away from me. I'm a monstrosity." It was just no. But nonetheless, I still find myself kinda-sorta almost loving Prince Kai. Not sure how I feel about Cinder because sometimes she did feel very Mary Sue to me.

Overall, this was a very good book and I will definitely be continuing the series since I have heard that they get better with every book. I suggest reading this book if you like fairytale retellings or science fiction. And I honestly think you don't have to be a fan of both genres to like this book because I barely read science fiction (or at least any that aren't dystopians because I'm noticing a lot of those have science fiction elements). But I do love myself a good fairytale retelling. And that is definitely what you'll be looking for. Please just read this book. ...more

Okay wow doesn't seem to cover this story. It does have elements of Cinderella in it and there is moments when its something completely different.

This is the first book that I have read in a long time that made me really happy. This book made me come out of my somewhat reading slump and it was great.
