With a strong and gripping beginning, this book completely enveloped me and I could not put it down. I was eager to get back to this book and finish it. I read into the early morning, hungry for the adventure and it's undercurrent of romance. The author created an engrossing story and wrote very well, and my favorite part about this story was that it was clean. Not a lot of cussing unless it was practically necessary (used from angry characters) and no sexual scenes. ...more

I adored this book! I really did.
The plot was exceptional. The idea of a food taster is just so unique, it’s something I’ve never seen before and yet the author did it so well. This story is so captivating; I seriously couldn’t put it down! However there are some parts of this book that I felt were dark and the issues lo Amazing! Maria V. I adored this book! I really did.
The plot was exceptional. The idea of a food taster is just so unique, it’s something I’ve never seen before and yet the author did it so well. This story is so captivating; I seriously couldn’t put it down! However there are some parts of this book that I felt were dark and the issues looked at in it were strong. Things like torture and rape.
The characters in this book are so complex and complicated. From Yelena, Valek, the Commander to Ari, and Janco as wells as Irys....I loved them all. They have so many different sides, especially Yelena and Valek. They’ve both been through such hard experiences and have taken lives, and yet they both have compassionate sides to them too.
Yelena has had a harder life than any deserves to have. Having spent years being tortured and experimented on and even rapped, it would be easy to understand if she’d let all that destroy her. And yet she didn’t; she was stronger than that. I loved watching her learn to defend herself and discovering people she can care about and that care about her in return. She’s moving on from the past and reshaping her future. I loved the brotherly/sisterly relationship she developed with Ari and Janco. Their affection towards her was so sweet, and I loved the banter between the 3 of them.
And let’s face it..... Valek’s hot! Yes, he’s an assassin and a trained killer. He’s dark and mysterious, but there’s something about him that’s just so alluring. He also has a kinder side, I liked his sculptures and it’s easy to see he’s head over heels in love with Yelena. And it’s hard not to see why Yelena fell for him.
I liked how he gradually let her in, and how they slowly began to care about one another. It’s incredible to see how much they’ve healed each other. Valek has reawakened parts of Yelena she thought were gone forever.

This was an incredible book! A must read!!

So far this book proves to be an intriguing story! Very interesting and different. This time I have all 3 books in hand, just in case...

This was a good read. Not the crazy obsessive read as a few series I read, but enough interest that I had to skim ahead so I could go to bed.

Great book!

The characters were all very likable (at least the good guys) and the action and mystery kept my attention through the whole book.

I was kinda disappointed the poison tasting didn't play as big of a part, but it wasn't too big of a deal.
