What a lovely story. Mildly suspenseful and foreboding (until the very end, when it's riveting), therefore interesting and compelling without being too nerve-wracking. This, like all good storytelling, is an inquiry into identity and place, a tale of lost people finding themselves and each other as they navigate a morass of circumstances and the various choices those circumstances present to each of them. The characters were so engaging that after I finished the novel, I found myself thinking about them. The mystery was good, if a little sad, and everything wrapped up nicely. The passages about horses could have been tedious but Ms. Tey did a good job and made them interesting. A nice, light mystery - a perfect antidote to the more graphic mystery/suspense novels I've been reading.
