So far so good, Keith made me crack up actin all scared of Adrian, it was funny. Can't wait to find out who Sydney falls in love with.i hope that Adrian will get over rose and fall in love with Syndney

Omg I knew something was up with Keith always going to see Clarence in private, Oh my god lee tried to kill Syndey so he could turn back into a strigoi ,that was such a great part to the book and when Eddie showed up there was an amazing fight between the two strigoi woman.

Okay, in Richelle Mead's defense, I had just finished the Vampire Academy series (with my heart still in pieces) so I don't know how I expected to feel any different, but this book did not hook me in at all.

I downloaded the series with expectations no higher than what I'd gone in to any of her other books expecting, and I was sorely dissapointed. Sydney is not how I imagined her to be at all, whiny and incompetent, not to mention the writing style in this book. It drones on and on and on, no act Okay, in Richelle Mead's defense, I had just finished the Vampire Academy series (with my heart still in pieces) so I don't know how I expected to feel any different, but this book did not hook me in at all.

I downloaded the series with expectations no higher than what I'd gone in to any of her other books expecting, and I was sorely dissapointed. Sydney is not how I imagined her to be at all, whiny and incompetent, not to mention the writing style in this book. It drones on and on and on, no action whatsoever except for the mysterious attack on Jillian... I'd already figured out the big secret between Jill and Adrian before it even became a question and the lack of character building was astonishing.

So, I'm left to wonder how someone could write such a beautiful series and then continue it with this boring spin off, I'm sorry, I really hoped I would enjoy this as I was hoping to tie up the loose ends I was left with in the Vampire Academy series but I couldn't even bring myself to finish the book.

“There’s nothing to be afraid of, I told myself. You’ve been with a vampire and dhampir all week. You should be used to it. Besides, really, the scariest thing about this place was the old house itself. Clarence and Lee weren’t all that intimidating, and Adrian . . . well, Adrian was pretty much the least scary vampire I’d ever met. He was too bratty for me to feel any real fear, and actually . . . as much as I hated to admit it, I kind of looked forward to seeing him. It made no sense, but something about his infuriating nature made me forget about my other worries.”

This part kind of just did it for me. There is so much potential, Alchemists, Moroi, he'll she even gave them their own government but this? I'm all for Vampires, and even more for the Badboy with a heart but Sydney just gets to me. I loved her in VA and that's why this shocks me so much, she's constantly going off about how much she hates Vampires, and even Dhampirs, how she's so afraid Jill is going to feed off of her... Blah, Blah, Blah. Get a hold of yourself, the inner monologue just really isn't cutting it, and a sweet 14 year old isn't going to rip your throat out unless she wants to turn into an evil bloodsucking monster, which - oh right - she isn't.

There's too many awful quotes I could use to get my point across, but I honestly don't think the first half of the book would fit on here.

Normally, I'm all for saving people's feelings, and I really do love Mead's writing, I just can't fathom how you could under develop your characters so horribly. If I hadn't read VA u wouldn't have know that Adrian was heartbroken and in would assume that he was there just to hit on every girl he laid eyes on, which he isn't because he has some ulterior motive. And I'm not going to start on Sydney because I made my point there.

In all, this is not Mead's best work and I'm really disappointed I couldn't get into this. ...more
