Malala has truly lived an extraordinary life, and her story has illuminated so many of my blindspots, especially when it comes to history. There is a great review of events both ancient and modern in order to situate the reader, which many have found to be tedious. It's not always riveting, as the writing voice can come across as flat, informative. please be advised that the rating is not about Ms Malala nor to down play her experience but rather of how the book is written.

This book made me extremely emotional - particularly the epilogue in which Malala reaffirms her commitment to education advocacy. I view Malala as both an ally in the struggle for world-wide education and as a symbol of faith. This book affirmed my belief in God, and, if I ever waiver in my dedication to being a social justice educator, I will revisit this book. It is a reminder of why I teach, why I promote books and literacy, and why I became a reading specialist. Thank you, Malala.

I hate to say that I didn't love the book since I so appreciate Malala and her father's enthusiasm and relentless advocacy for education for girls and boys everywhere. I thought it was a great book to ground yourself on differences in how people live all around the world.
