What an amazing first book for an author. I am not surprised of the awards Joyce received for this extraordinary novel. Also I am fascinated that it takes places in the same region as Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" (Kingsbridge, England). Something about this book made me feel like I was right there with Harold on his pilgrimage. I am very glad I read this book.
