I’ve heard about this book around the blogging world and BookTubers and I’m pretty happy I picked this book up. The plot of this book was so interesting and I really liked how this book was written. The characters in this book were just great and the world development was very well developed. I am really excited for the next book and if you have read this book and enjoyed it, you would too.

I'm so glad I finally read this. Kestrel is a truly amazing and outstanding main character. She is strong, but in such a different way than you normally see in fantasy books. She's cunning and clever, not necessarily physically strong. The love story was also something I enjoyed immensely. I saw why it happened and I really liked them together. This book blew me away. I have owned it for almost a year, and had never picked it up for one reason or another, so when I got approved for an ARC of book two, I knew that it was finally time to get to this one. And boy am I glad that I did. I loved the main character, Kestrel, so much. She is so smart, and I think that that is just fantastic. She's the daughter of the general of the military, so she ends up doing a lot of strategizing for the military, which I adored reading about. She's a stro

I bought 'The Winner's Curse' last year and it's been sitting on my shelf for a long time because I've been apprehensive about reading it. The premise seemed promising but could easily result in a lacking story if not executed well. And I was so pleasantly surprised when the book delivered.
'The Winner's Curse' is set in a world torn by war, where the once powerful Herrani people have become enslaved under the Valorian Empire. Kestrel is the daughter of a Valorian General who stumbles upon an au ...more

2.5 Kestrel and Arin are the most maddening characters I've read in a while! I don't even care if that's the wrong word to use there. I wanted to strangle them both. That aside the world building was done well. Even though I read this quickly, it felt like it just dragged on for me and I disliked the slavery aspect so much like I get that it's the point of the entire novel, trilogy blah but I just was so uncomfortable and disgusted by the whole thing. I was just like okay what's the point?! I di
