Three stars isn't enough so I'm giving this four but under protest.
What's with this woman? While the story itself is good and the premise is great, the beginning and the ending will give you whiplash.
The first chapter is confusing. It's unclear what's happened and it takes the reader a while to catch up and to forgive the author for this somewhat "Graceless" way of starting a story about a girl named Grace.
But the characters are likeable, the storyline draws you in and finally you reach the d ...more

More like a 3.5. I thought the prose was lovely, if a little too lyrical. The idea was fresh and I did respond to both Sam and Grace, who I thought were characterised well and are very believable.
Unfortuntely, I was a little thrown off by the idea of them falling in love so fast, even if they had essentially known each other for 6 years, I would've still liked more development, maybe some initial skepticism and shyness. That said, the majority of the book just floated, telling of Sam and Grace's ...more

Magic.
Stiefvater's writing is beautiful, lyrical, poetic at times. I love the story and the characters. I love the ending and am so ready for Linger and it is not coming out until the summer.
The only thing that bugs me is this obsessive love between Sam and Grace. Obsessive love is unhealthy. But Sam and Grace acknowledge it in themselves at least. And work on their relationship so that it can eventually move beyond that. So I suppose the progression of their relationship through the series will ...more

O my God!!! that's the first thing that comes to my mind after finishing this book for the second time. I'd never thought that reading a book for the second time made me love it even more than the first time. It didn't even feel like reading it again, it felt like reading it for the first time. The characters are so amazing, you really feel like you know them at the end of the book. The story is amazing and it's such a beautiful love story. I even cried this time, I didn't cry the first time I r

A pack of wolves lives in the forest, they disappear in the summer, as the temperature drops they return. A boy from school is killed by wolves and the attack of the wolves has begun. One wolf by the name of Sam seeks refuge at Grace's house and a romance erupts. Sam and the other wolves are werewolves.
Each chapter has a temperature. The story rotates from Sam to Grace.
Loved the book - can't wait to read or listen to more from Maggie Stioefvater.

This is my third time reading Shiver. And every time is just as breathtaking as the last. There's nothing I could write that would do this book justice. It's a love story. It's a song. It's a poem you read when you were a child and didn't understand and remembered years later with tears. It's a pleasant ache that grows page by page until it completely overpowers every other sense you have and turns your heart to mush. It's brilliant.

Three-and-a-half stars. Because I loved
The Raven Boys
so much, I thought I'd like this one more than I did - but I do find Maggie Stiefvater to be a brilliant storyteller and I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series.
