Shelves: thriller-mystery, historical-fiction

I was hoping for a bit more than what this delivered. Not bad, just not what I was expecting a story of a murderer to deliver. I did enjoy the references to smells and oil extraction as I love essential oils but that is about as far as the love goes.

Patrick Süskind is an incredibly talented writer who uses hauntingly beautiful language to describe horrific situations. His sentences are so unique I often reread them in awe. Unlike most murder novels, this one feels truly original. It’s a story and style that will stand the test of time unlike others. It also engages all the senses, especially smell, in a way that’s unforgettable and completely immersive.
