This is an interesting story but I wasn't as captured by it as I was with Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Really interesting history and lots of peeks into a bygone time, I especially enjoyed reading about the 1st AYP fair. This book was a slow starter for me. In fact, when I was reading some discussion questions, I could not answer the first question. It asked a question about what happened in Chapter 2 and I could not remember what Chapter 2 was about!! When I re-read it, I could see why I forgot. The subject matter was painful to remember.
But like all historical fiction that I read, this one did eventually grab me.
