I enjoyed the storytelling and felt pretty engaged for most of the story. The characters were interesting but not fully fleshed enough for my liking. I was hoping the castle and the grounds would have played a larger part, they just seemed to be the anchor for the story.

I received this book free through the GoodReads Giveaway program. I would give this book a 3.5, but I rounded up to a 4. This was my first book by author Jessica Shattuck. I enjoyed this book, as a fan of historical fiction, I found this twist on the stories of World War 2 very intriguing. The story of 3 German woman lives during and after the war.
