This is the story of three women and their experiences during WWII and post WWII Germany. All three women present unique voices with tales of hardship, loss, and love. The women share a unique friendship, one based on a promise made by Marianne to the resistance fighters, where she would protect and provide for each woman and their families.

I received this book free through the GoodReads Giveaway program. I would give this book a 3.5, but I rounded up to a 4. This was my first book by author Jessica Shattuck. I enjoyed this book, as a fan of historical fiction, I found this twist on the stories of World War 2 very intriguing. The story of 3 German woman lives during and after the war.
