When I first read A Game of Thrones in 2012 I was a bit confused with all the names and places that it took me a bit longer to get through the book. I did enjoy the writing of Martin but also the complicated world that he has created. So when the TV series came out I watched season 1 and with faces to name I had it all clear in my head. I won't go into the story. What needs being told has been written in thousands of reviews.
I rarely re-read series, however when a buddy read was proposed a few months back I thought on it and decided that this one deserved my attention again. I am glad I made that choice. My third time reading this, taken at a very slow pace as part of a read/discussion group of others who all want to reconnect with the books in lieu of HBO series. It not only holds up wonderfully, it's even better than I recall!
If you don't already know about the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens and the battle for the Iron Throne of Westeros -- well pick up the book as I'm not summarizing! What I will say is that this time rereading, I picked up so many clues and hints to the future that I've ...more

What can I say about this book that hasn't already been said? It's epic, filled with all the drama, adventure, lust, death, etc. you can expect from a good fantasy book. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the series!
