"Why are we to stop her, sir? What has she done?"
"Done! She has escaped from my Asylum. Don't forget: a woman in white. Drive on."

I loved, loved, loved the first bits of the book!

I loved Walter! I thought he was going to be in the whole book and that's where I started to get a might irritated. Anyhoo, so Walter gets a job instructing Miss Laura Fairlie and Miss Halcombe. I might mention that his employer, Mr. Fairlie, was a complete t ...more

Starting this for my facebook group read. Also fits my chunky challenge and my scrabble (summer) challenge in Retro Reads.

Amazing!! Even better the second time around. Fortunaltely, after 7 years I forgot mostly everything so it was like reading it for the first time. I wish Wilkie Colins was still around to give us these amazing gems. Everything I've ever read of his has been so freaking good. His writing is so good and never feels like 'old' writing. I'm sure I'll reread this again in a few years. And btw, I love the B&N classic edition of this book. The cover is just beautifully done.

Collins’ story is heralded as one of the first in the mystery genre and was part of a movement in literature focusing on outlandish crime dramas. The twists and turns of the mystery leave us holding our breath until the very end.
Well done and written with originality, this book is hard to put down. A story is told from the journals, recollections and voices of many.

A very well written detailed story about a woman who is betrayed by her husband in the worst possible way.
I greatly enjoyed that each character played a pivotal role in the betrayal. No matter how small, the role was examined by
the various narrators until the story was complete. Marian was my favorite character due to her strength of mind and body, I greatly enjoyed her narratives.
