'...a novel which, whatever its other merits may have been, was not interesting...' The bad news is that this quote describes A Prefect's Uncle. The good news is the quote is from the next School Stories book which is at points moderately amusing.

A decent example of early Wodehouse, a school story with the characteristic charm, but with the plot and characters less developed than Wodehouse manages in his maturity. What is most distinctive about this particular book is the detailed and loving description of sport, mainly cricket but also rugby later on. You really get the sense of how important sport was to public school boys, to the exclusion of pretty much all else.

I liked this one more than The Pothunters. A nice read 😊 3.8 stars I feel.
