A would be bounder and rouge is Ukridge. Fortunately his friend who writes of his life with almost Wodehousian skill is a likable fellow who tolerates his longtime friend with a certain bemusement which takes the edge of an otherwise unlikable character. If his Boswell doesn't mind couching up the occasional fiver or even tenner than who are we to object. I am sure it is a good book, just that, I liked Ukridge lesser than Gally Threepwood, or my favourite, Uncle Fred.
