One of the best PG Wodehouse books I've read/listened to. I like Uncle Fred even better than Jeeves and Wooster.

While this might not be up to the very best that this author can provide, I found it to be the closest to prime Wodehouse I've encountered since the end of the Second World War. (Reading the books chronologically, that is.) The dialogue sparkles just as it did in the best Wodehousian fashion in the past, and the characters and situations are very typical of the author. It is only that the plot lacks the final degree of interest that keeps this from being one the "classic" Wodehouse novels.

As I continue my chronological read of Wodehouse, I've discovered that I enjoy a novel more when there is a good solid lead character who sort of dominates the proceedings. The books with a couple leading couples who we shift between just don't have the same punch. Bertie Wooster with his first person narratives answers the bill and so does Uncle Fred who is featured in Uncle Dynamite. The loveable rogue who entangles one and all in his schemes to spread light and happiness is back for a second
