Reading Wodehouse in chronological order, you get a somewhat skewed sense of his style early on. Prior to this, everything has been school stories. Don't get me wrong, those are great too, and they show the makings of great wit and cleverness, but they just don't feel like Wodehouse.

Having read through half a dozen of the British school daze books that PG Wodehouse wrote to start his career, this book set on a farm and featuring adults was bordering on joy. While not a peck on his greatest characters, Ukridge was The Master's first memorable one at any rate.
