Unlike Laurel & Hardy, the freshness of Bertie Wooster never flags. Although some have asserted that P. G. Wodehouse is but a light snack compared to the substance of Tolkien , after one of the pick me ups concocted by Jeeves, one might be inclined to suppose that even the implacable scales of literary criticism would read more favorably.

Jeeves was at the apogee of his steely reserve in this weighty tome. At finding Bertie trussed, he released him with complete aplomb. It could well be that in

The last of the Jeeves and Wooster canon is one of the best comedies ever written by an author over the age of 90. While there isn't quite the magic of Wodehouse in his prime this was still an enjoyable read. This Wodehouse book has one of my favorite little scenes in all his work: Wooster falls into a swimming pool at night fully clothed, and he enjoys it saying, "Oddly enough, the emotion which stood out from the mixture was one of pleasure. Funny but not up to the usual PG Wodehouse quality. Overall it felt a bit recycled and like all the jokes had been done before and done better. Jeeves was almost non-existent.

This is definitely one of my favorite Bertie and Jeeves especially when Bertie writes,

"The next moment, my late father's sister Dahlia staggered in, pirouetted a while, cursed a bit, recovered her equilibrium and said:
'Has he brought it yet?' "

And let's not forget Major Plank an English adventurer from Equatorial Africa.

This book is a real gem.
