When we finished reading the book, my preschool storytime sang the Fruit Salad song. As I usually do, I asked what other things they'd like to add to the salad. Answers: chicken nuggets, raspberries, crocodiles. ...more

What happens if you swallow a watermelon seed? The alligator in this story imagines this problem and what it could mean for him! Young readers will laugh and enjoy this amusing predicament!

Have you ever swallowed a watermelon seed? What happens to the seed? This laugh out-loud funny story will get a smile out of even your most stoic listener. The brightly colored, brilliantly simple illustrations keep the focus on the action. Perfect summertime read. Recommended for pre-K - 2nd grade

Teehee. I totally remember my cousin Michelle freaking me out when I was little that watermelons would grow inside you if you swallowed the seeds.

June 2016 - Ben loved all the watermelon, but I wonder if some of the humor is lost on kids growing up with seedless watermelons? Or maybe the fear just hadn't occurred to Ben - he's seen a few seeds but I'm not sure if he quite grasps the seed -> fruit concept.

September 2017 - Ben thought it was hilarious this time around.

This book is adorable. I recommend it for a readaloud with students with special needs, or younger primary students. Mine LOVED it! Great story, fun interactive elements, simple color palette combine into illustrations that pack a visual wallop.

The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli - WAY WAY WAY too cute. Love the art, love the simple text, and thrilled to add it into the collection.
