What Members Thought

I was worried that when I started this book it would become boring and too descriptive for me. That was not the case at all. Yes it was very descriptive and I did have to look up a a couple of things like vacuum cleaners and car jacks of the 40's but I really enjoyed the characters. It's about the choices we have to make and sometimes the things in life we really have no choice about…and sometimes regrets. It did not go too deep into the horrors of WWII but concentrated more on a gifted young Ge

A brilliant story, but not a good fit for my ADHD.
If you want a cheerful book, don’t read this. If you want a page turner, don’t read this. If you want an overwhelmingly happy ending, don’t read this. If you like fancy prose, deep thoughts, a feel for the sorrows of war, then this book may be for you.
I can see and appreciate the brilliance behind this book, and I love the message of un-demonizing enemies (especially during WWII), but my rating is based on my own personal taste. I found it so wo ...more

I thought this was a beautiful and touching story, and loved the way the author described the loss of sight, and the adjustment afterwards. Mielenkiintoinen lähestymistapa kirjoittaa tarinaa, jossa päähenkilöt kohtaavat radion välityksellä. Olin utelias kirjaa kohtaan, takakansitekstin perusteella.

A story based on WW-II, dealing with lives of two people of different countries, different views, culture and ambitions. I liked the idea of how they were connected throughout the book but had so small a time together. You never know how you are continuously a part of someone's life and how much can you effect it.

Set against the backdrop of Hitler's European WWII theater this book is about the life story of a young blind girl and hr closely knit family. Very vivid and descriptive this book draws you in with the story and is a page turner especially if you prefer a strong historical context with your reading.
