Having read American Gods by Neil Gaiman I was a bit hesitant to read The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Why? Because I have mixed feelings about American Gods. I didn't get this book. I felt like there were too many questions I wanted answered while reading it. For me things just appeared with no explanation or back story and some instances I wondered why even mention it. In the classic sense of the book, beginning plot mystery middle end, the book had all that. I THINK I enjoyed this book. It was boring at some points and at sometimes I just didn't want to put it down. The ending was interesting. It was a modern age fairy tale and really different from what I had expected it to be.
The concept of adults not paying attention to children and understanding things on their level was nice. And I think that its really hard to write a book from a child's point of view. To describe things in their terms is remarkable.

I took me four days to read this as it just didn't keep me entertained. I came away from it thinking….hmmm what did I just read? It is a very odd book and maybe I am just too literal.
