We are no longer in Oz anymore, Toto. Or to put it plainly, Cecile is kicked out of Trollus.. Given the big ol boot, and by none other than her beloved Tristan himself. Back up above ground Cecile has survived thanks to the help of her also witchy grandmother, and is falling back into her old footsteps on her way to become a famous singer in Trianon.

I was worried that this book would frustrate me. Dealing with the separation of Tristan and Cecile, I thought that it would be just a constant battle of the two of them trying to get back to each other. And although that's what I desperately wanted, that would have made for a very dull story. But Danielle Jensen did not let us down. This was just as good, if not better than Stolen Songbird. We are whisked away with Cecile on her mission to find the notorious witch, Anushka. To kill her once and for all and free the Trolls from under the mountain. But below ground, Tristan is fighting for his life. Imprisoned by his tyrant of a father, and fighting for the friends he lost in his desperate attempt to save Cecile, he is quickly falling into a dark place. One that only his most loyal of friends and followers could possibly help him to overcome. They need the crowned prince that he once was to overthrow the King and make life good for the half bloods.

There is so much to this book that its hard to summarize and explain just how INTO this world I fell. I loved that in this book, we really got to know Tristan. He went from an arrogant prince, to this beautiful character who would do anything for those he loved, and who fought for the right thing so fiercely. His character growth was admirable. I found myself feeling so much for him and wanting to just pluck him out and give him a hug and to tell him it will all be alright. But this growth is really what made him such a strong key player in this battle of good and evil.

I also really enjoyed Cecile's quest for the witch Anushka. Getting to see her in action, and finding out just how much she was magically capable of was such a neat adventure. I loved her relationships with Chris and Sabine, their friendships were honestly the only reason Cecile even managed half of the stunts she succeeded in pulling off! And through it all we really got to see Cecile rise to become the "Queen" she might one day become should Tristan succeed in taking the throne from his father.

Through it all Danielle Jensen beautifully creates these places and characters and weaves it into this amazing story that caught me on the first word and pulled me in. I can't tell you enough how much I have enjoyed reading these and I cannot wait to see how it ends in the next book.

Nevermind that I figured out who was the witch Cecile and Tristan were looking for in book one, nevermind that Cecile was totally blind to a million clues staring her in the face in a daily basis- this book was EPIC! It included everything fans of Stolen Songbird had been clammoring for, plus all the romantice, mystery, suspens and full magic they could ever want.

Cécile, just like in Stolen Songbird is still a stubborn-brave heroine I love so much. But she's also reckless and likes to act first, think later. Waaawww I just can't...

OKAY... I think ... HH is totally an improvement from the previous one.

I really like how Cecile does her part. Sure she got many things to complain about and sometimes she showed that she is a crybaby and reckless but she doesn't let herself be like that for a long time. But probably that's because she has no time. But still, I like her more here.

My Thoughts: Stolen Songbird, the first book of the series, was a 5 star read for me unfortunately this one didn't quite reach that high. I'm not sure if this fell into middle book syndrome or because I thought I knew who the witch was at the end of book one and after the first couple chapters of this one I was sure.
Watching Cecile struggle with something that was so obvious did not make for an interesting read. Add in how horrible her m ...more
