So this is what a book hangover feels like... Danielle L. Jensen I just want to thank you for putting this into the world!

I stumbled upon this book because of Regan from Peruse Project. I added this book to read eight months ago and I've been kicking myself for the last three days for not picking it up sooner.

This book was amazing, it quickly made it way not only to my number one book of 2015 (I know it's only June, but I highly doubt there will be anything to top this) but my number one book of all time. I actually bought this book quite a while ago after being told about it, then I picked it up read chapter one and then put it down again. Now I am kic Ok gotta set the mood here. This book was amazing, it quickly made it way not only to my number one book of 2015 (I know it's only June, but I highly doubt there will be anything to top this) but my number one book of all time. I actually bought this book quite a while ago after being told about it, then I picked it up read chapter one and then put it down again. Now I am kicking myself for that because I could have lived in this world, know these characters a lot sooner than I did.

I don't even know where to start with this review, I know that there is no way I will be able to give this book the 5 star review that it deserves but I'm going to try.

Danielle Jensen did an amazing job developing this unique magical world with some of the most unique and amazing characters that I have ever read about. Not only were we trapped in a city under a mountain but aside from the couple humans, we are dealing with trolls. When I read the summary for this book my first thought was of the Labyrinth, which is one of my all-time favourite movies. So here I was thinking that I was going to encounter ugly trolls, running around on shaggy sheepdogs trying to help a human girl. In Stolen Songbird we have our mix of disfigured trolls, and some of the most beautiful trolls that you didn't know existed.

Following our main character Cecil, who is kidnapped and sold to the troll king to be married off to the prince of Trollus in order to break a spell that was placed on the town 500 years ago by a witch. This is where we meet Tristan. Oh my god, Tristan, I want a Tristan. Tristan was a great character, very complex and hard to read, very loyal, and he has some of the greatest sarcasm I have ever heard from a character. Now if we could get Tristan, Raffe and Penryn from Angelfall in the same room I think I would die laughing just listening to them banter with each other. One can wish, right?

Being married to a troll would be absolutely terrifying especially if not only a day before you didn't even know they existed. But Cecil and Tristan aren't just married, they are bonded. (view spoiler)

When the bonding fails, and the spell isn't broken, it is chaos. Everyone thinks that the kingdom has failed, and they hate Cecil (because who likes humans anyway, right?) but, the entire town is asked to wait and see if maybe it just needs to take time. In that time, we learn about the resistance and just how much the half-bloods are depending on Cecil to be their saviour. Not only is Cecil feeling the weight of many half-bloods depending on her but she is mixed up with her growing feelings for a Troll.

I absolutely loved everything about this book from the descriptive world, to the amazing character development and surprising the romance/relationships that develop in this book. I usually don't like relationships and find that they get in the way of the story but this one was amazing, and every time they were just about to kiss my heart would flutter for them.

I quickly ordered the second in the series and can not wait to sit down and read it (probably in one sitting)

I've been wanting to read this book for a long, long time, and I'm happy to report that it was worth the wait! The story is rich and complex with well thought out plot twists and complications. It starts off with a bang that carries to the last, heartbreaking page. The characters are terrific and many are physically unique, especially Marc, who I have a definite soft spot for. *5 stars* is worth it.
Why? Because when I'm reading Stolen Songbirdit feels like I'm entering Europe in the 16-17th century. I know, it didn't tell about Europe history at all. But the setting, the characters it's like you read the circumstances, politics, and intrigue at French Autocracy in Middle Century.

When I started this book, I wasn't entirely sure if I would like it. Perhaps I have some preconceived notions about trolls and was prepared to not like any of them.

I was pleasantly surprised, and drawn straight into this book. The characterization was tremendous, and Jensen does an excellent job with showing the reader rather than telling. I could picture each character and setting perfectly in my mind.

Amazing troll book!!!

I absolutely loved this book! I really can't think of one thing that I didn't like about it. Cecile's character was strong and courageous and completely unselfish, I also loved that she was smart about her actions because in a lot of books the heroine tries to be brave but is stupid about it. This review is long overdue. I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars and here's why. I needed to re-read this book before posting my review because I felt like a short perusal would do no justice to this particular novel. The intricacies and thought put into the plot and development deserved a second look, which I was able to spare through a read-along with the book's author, Danielle Jensen. So when it come to the story itself, the book is a winner. Sure most of us have read countless renderings of This review is long overdue. I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars and here's why. I needed to re-read this book before posting my review because I felt like a short perusal would do no justice to this particular novel. The intricacies and thought put into the plot and development deserved a second look, which I was able to spare through a read-along with the book's author, Danielle Jensen. So when it come to the story itself, the book is a winner. Sure most of us have read countless renderings of the classic damsel in distress saved by the strong otherworldly hunk, but this particular 'rendition' strays off that path quite a bit. To begin with, Cecile, our female lead, is kidnapped and essentially sold to the trolls to fulfill a prophecy linked to their freedom. However, this girl is no damsel in distress. Sure she has the basic reaction of fear and a need to return home like any other normal person would, but she never once just sits around and accepts her fate. One thing that becomes quickly established is that Cecile is a loyal and passionate fighter, who also has common sense. One of my favorite elements was that she never simply went with anything without coming to her own conclusions and resolutions first. Then we move on to our male lead, Tristan. In an attempt to keep his character under wraps (because there is no element I can give away without absolutely ruining the reader's opportunity to discover him fully) I will choose to be brief. Tristan may resemble most YA male protagonists, but what goes on in his mind is enough to make one want to both hit him with a brick while hugging the life out of him. He's just one of those people who has good intentions, but doesn't always succeed in executing them. Aside from these two, most of the other characters were developed beautifully throughout the book. The development also stretches across this book and the next (I will post my thoughts on that book soon), bringing about a very lively and real world. Speaking of world-building, the descriptions of the settings and the vivid details of the places and people Cecile and Tristan encounter are simply phenomenal. The attention given to building the world of Trollus is especially noteworthy. I couldn't suppress the depression from the bleak settings of the said kingdom and the absolute lack of hope its people must be feeling. So, despite all these positives, why not a 5? Well if there's one thing that could be said about this book, it can be overwhelming if you are a fast reader. Little details that could escape you come back to haunt you later if you're not careful. Hence the reason I had to re-read the book. However, what did prove to be helpful was the read along the author had hosted. From fun facts to chapter summaries, the author gives useful insight to the book and is quick to answer questions as well. I highly recommend taking a look at it, for it's worth it!
