on a first look, this book is about a failed fisherman who tries to catch the biggest fish. that's all the story is about. but what Ernest tries to symbolises is far more than that. this book is about determination,honour,hard work,cycle of life and spiritualism.
the fisherman's three-day struggle,cuts in hand climbing a mountain with a mast on his shoulder portrays the crucifixion on Jesus christ.

A beautiful book with so many lessons. I fell in love with Santiago and cried with the boy after he was back.
