One of the best psychological thrillers I read recently. I was wowed hroughout the book, except for a few pages in the middle when I started thinking, 'Oh, now I will have to give it 4 stars'. But then things began to warm up. I just fell in love with the English countryside background [Ashbury], Rachel, the 30 something jobless, alcoholic lady who is trying to redeem herself and failing at each attempt, but never giving up hope; Anna, who is chronically stressed out and insecure about her husba ...more

3.5 actually, it kept me awake till 2.30am! It was gripping in parts but kind of predictable towards the end.

Definitely an easy read. But, even at 300 pages it seemed stretched. I will outrightly say this, that is probably better than Cuckoo Calling and those pseudo-detective types. It was toss up between a 3 or 4 star rating. The last 200+ pages were riveting & I couldn't stop turning pages. However the first 100 or so pages were confusing. I had to go back & reread pages to figure who was talking & the time frame in question. I recommend this book to all but be patient in the beginning. ...more

The title itself is misleading. It's not a girl. More like self loathing late 30s crazy woman. ...more

I'm conflicted on this one. I really disliked all the characters, and yet that same dislike for the characters had me turning the pages to find out who the killer was going to be. I did end up guessing who it was, but not until about 50 pages before the author told the reader.

I found myself angry at the characters a lot (I guess that goes along with the dislike), and I also find my opinions of the characters changing every few chapters. That said, it obviously was a book that captured my attent

Definitely a page turner, but light reading and not really up to the hype. I also really didn't like the way this author categorically identifies male and female characters in pathetic, weak roles. ...more
