An awesomely horrendous story, rendered more gruesome, once one knows that it is based on true events.
Agnes, the central figure, labelled the murderess (one among three) of 2 farmers in Iceland is awaiting death penalty. She asks for a young priest to help her through her last days and is transported to the home of a lower down official in a provincial farm. Brilliantly atmospheric - so much so that the harsh Icelandic landscapes become a character in itself! This book is one of the best I have read in fiction based on true incidents. This one is based on the last execution in Iceland of Agnes Magnusdottir (one of the 3 convicted) for the murder of her master and his friend.

It traces the period of waiting for the execution for Agnes on a farm where she is kept by Governtment orders against the wishes of the family which owns it. The family of Jon, ...more

Um livro baseado numa história real, Agnes, condenada por um assassinato, e conta-nos os seus últimos dias, é tão triste, as injustiças que se fazem neste mundo.
Como sabia desde o princípio o que já vai acontecer, deixei-me envolver pela bonita e triste história de vida de Agnes.
