To kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a supreme classic. It"s an austere yet elegant book written from the POV of a little girl, Jean Louise Finch a.k.a. Scout. who narrates about the ridiculous attitude of adult men and women towards class and racism, prevalent in the 1930s world, as perceived by her childlike mind.

Finally I was able to finish this book having stopped it so many times at various stages that i have lost count. Now i may receive a bit of flak for writing this but according to me the main storyline was about a lawyer defending a black man at a time where racism was prevalent. But at times I found it away from the main storyline. The character of Boo Radley was hyped very much but his part wasnt justified. His absence wouldnt have made any effect on the main storyline. This is the kind of book you should read as a teenager, and then later on in life. Up here in Québec, this book rarely appears on mandatory or recommended reading in school, so I did not get to it for a really looooong time. I saw the movie in my late twenties, and kept telling myself I should read the book. I finally got to it, right in the middle of the noise around its "sequel" (which I have no intention of reading)...
