I finally got around to reading this book. I don't know why I kept putting it off. It was a nice short easy read. I had seen some of the movie and usually when I see the movie first I am afraid to read the book because 1. I usually know what is going to happen and then the book just isn't as good. 2. I start comparing the book and the movie and don't pay attention to the book.

Coraline is a cute story of a girl who moves to a new house and is bored. Her parents don't really pay attention to her.

I don't like scary books. This is a
children's book, but it was too
scary for me.

This review is copied from my blog, The Towering Pile. It was originally published here.

When Coraline goes through a doorway in her house, one which is supposed to be a bricked off doorway between her flat and an unoccupied one, she finds herself in a flat much like her own, where she has an other mother and an other father, who want her to stay with them forever.

Coraline is a fairly creepy, easy to read middle grade book by Neil Gaiman. I would recommend it to kids who want a scary book but definitely not to more sensitive kids. There were a few parts that even got to me. It wasn't the best book I've ever read and I wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters but I did like the lessons Coraline learned in the end about appreciating the people that we have in our lives and thinking about others. A perfect read for a dark, stormy October night! ...more

More of a 3.5 star book for me. It reminded me of books like "Alice in Wonderland" or "Wizard of Oz". It was almost a scary story for children, I might've been scared reading this at age 8-10. This was my first book by Neil Gaiman, I'm definitely curious about reading more.

I want to see the movie based off this book and see if my vision is how the movie is. I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author.

This is the kind of book I would have loved reading when I was younger. Creepy YA fiction. I'm looking forward to watching the animated film of the same name. ...more
