I agree in the quote in front of the book cover. This book is a mix of The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones. It's filled with action, romance , comedy. You'll enjoy the characters in this book. How badass Calaena is and the bromance of Dorian and Chaol. This book is absolutely fast-paced, really fast that you'll finish this book in only one sitting. I think they changed the book cover for the Throne of Glass. I didn't really like the first cover as much as I like the second one. Look how bad-ass Calaena looks! She has all of those cool-looking weapons she's holding and her jacket! I would do anything to get those jacket. What I also love about this cover is the back cover. The back cover is showing the back of Calaena wearing a dress. In the book, Calaena is trying to keep her identity as a assassin, so that's why they showed it in the cover. I could just stare at this book cover for hours.
Characters
The characters in this book is just perfect. All girls wants to be like Calaena. She has a strong and funny personality. She is an amazing fighter but she also has a good heart. What I love about Calaena is that she's confident. She knows what she's doing and plans ahead.
At the beginning of the book, Prince Dorian may seem a little bit mean and cocky. But later in the book , he starts building his relationship up with Calaena. They start becoming friends by their interest in books and later falls n love with each other. I love how Dorian makes time for Calaena. He cares about his champion and kingdom. One day , Dorian would make a really good team.
Chaol is the captain of the guard and Prince Dorian's friend. I love how Dorian, even though he's really young, knows his duty. Chaol has a much more strong personality than Dorian.So it takes a really long time for him to admit he like Calaena event hough he's mostly around her. He's a really good soldier and a awesome coach to Calaena. When they're both together, they are really funny. They love teasing and making jokes to each other and then they go back to serious mode. And also , who had trouble pronouncing Chaol?
The Games
I actually thought the games would be much deadlier like the Hunger Games. So when I heard that the first task was just to shoot a bow and arrow , I was really surprise. But then , they also do have a lot of challenges, so it gets harder and harder. Even if the challenges were easy, Calaena still got to show her super cool assassin skills. The last challenge definitely make me keep on reading. I love how the author made Calaena fall and rise up again. I actually felt like I was really in the battle while reading it. That's how awesome Sarah J Maas writing is!
I really enjoyed this book. When I finished this book , I really couldn't choose what team I'm in. Both of the guys are really special in different ways, it's a really hard decision.Comment down below what team your in! If you haven't read the series, again , grab a copy of it in your local bookstore. It's really good! And I tell you guys, the second book is much better than the first one. Can you believe that?
