I usually hate reading short story collections, but I couldn't ignore all the hype around this one, and I'm glad I've read it. Semplica Girl Diaries, Home, and Puppy were my favorites (although SG Diaries really tested my patience until I just relaxed and let him tell the story). I appreciate how Saunders examines class structure and anxieties through character and voice. Standpoint theory conveyed through fiction. I heard and read that Tenth of December was a best book of 2012. I don't get it. My well-read neighbor said a guy's perspective prevails. No such thing has ever alienated me before, but he may be right. The final and title story was insightful. I did keep reading to finish; I don't always. Flustered!

Two and a half stars. Many of the stories start out with intriguing premises but fall far short in making the author's points in the end. In several instances it didn't feel like the stories really ended, other than moving to the next story.

I enjoyed the first stories. The last two lost my interest despite multiple efforts. I listened to this book, so that may have made a difference. This is my third book of short stories in a row, so it could be that I am just done with short stories for awhile.
Worthy of all the hype.
This book makes me think of driving and holding your head out of the window. It's fun and wild and a little dangerous.
