I have a bad habit of sticking with a book even when I'm not enjoying it. I always hope that it is going to get better if I just give it enough time. I have to learn that it's okay to give up and move on to something I enjoy more. This was one of those times I should have given up. As hard as I tried I could not get into this book. What a novel. I can't possibly imagine Mitchell topping it, but I suppose we'll see. This is a very thought-provoking work, with intentional layers upon layers of connections between characters who lived decades, sometimes centuries apart from one another, who had nothing yet everything to do with one other. The messages and theories in this novel on life, death, love, and human progress are both bleak and encouraging, which I find inherently appropriate. I highly recommend this novel to anyone
