I am ashamed of our history of slavery. I'm angry with the senseless deaths of so many African American youths that died at the hands of people who have been programmed to assume that they were a threat. I can't begin to understand how the African American people can ever get over/forgive our ancestors. So I sympathize with Ta-Nehisi Coates. I read some goodreads reviews and readers called him angry. Well he should be!

I agree with the other reviews that this is a very important read for every American. I am a white older female and it was very difficult to read what he has lived through. I am digesting it now and will be contemplating it for a long time ahead.
