I gave up on this....life is too short and other books await.
It took exactly 2 months for me to read this book and I will admit I am glad I am finished. It is not Mitchell's best but still a vey good book with wonderful characters in Holly, Marinus, Crispin and Hugo lamb.
The story loosely follows the life of Holly Sykes through many different perspectives and through decades. As holly and I are close to the same age, it was nice reminiscing while she was younger, recognizing her in the present and wondering about the future.

I love David Mitchell's straightforward, interesting writing style, but I could do without the fantasy aspects of his books. Still, I keep coming back, knowing that's going to be a part of the read.

I just didn't get what this added up to as a whole. I'm in the minority, I know, but this didn't work for me at all.
ETA: I think my biggest problem with this book is that I prefer books on a smaller canvas. So it may be that I'm just not the right reader for this book. Plenty of really smart readers loved it, and for that reason alone, I think there's something worth reading here. Maybe I just need to spend more time with David Mitchell. ...more

I though this book started off strong and then really started to drag. I have a feeling this is a love it or hate it type of book.
