I am not really a fan of "Oprah's Book Club", but Sue Monk Kidd did a great job on this book. I loved all the historical facts and enjoyed the way she wove her fiction into it. I truly enjoyed the development of her characters and the setting was very well done too! There are so many layers to this book, love, friendship, ideals, and ambition along with the topics of slavery, and women's issues. Started off as slavery and ended with women's rights - both subjects shared hardships some worse than others. Very brave women. Based on real life account of two women that made a difference in freedom for slaves and women rights too.
