I had heard of the stories which form the premise of this book, namely that not everyone who died in hospitals during Hurricane Katrina had died of natural causes. Sheri Fink's account of five days during and immediately after Katrina is very compelling. The second part of the book, focussed on the justice system, law and ethics was less compelling to me. I have wanted to read this story for a long time, even more so after visiting New Orleans for the first time earlier this year. It is the story of what happened at Memorial Hospital during and immediately after Hurricane Katrina struck the city of New Orleans and the levees broke, and the resulting aftermath. This book was obviously well researched and well written. It was a tough read for me.... but that should not detract from the author's work. I just found the subject matter rather grim and plodded though it.
I don't regret reading it, but would not generally suggest it unless I knew it would be of particiular interest to someone.

I am not sure that the actual writing ability of the author was necessary with this content. I am horrified by the situation the staff/patients/families were in after hurricane Katrina. This was eye opening and left me thinking for sure.
