This story was so incredibly original and funny to me because I've been a gamer myself and 90% of this book takes place in a virtual reality MMO game with hardcore gamers. And the quirkiness of a futuristic society that has an obsession with the 80's, of all decades, is entertaining. Definitely a one-of-a-kind book. I only refrain from giving this book 5 stars because I loath the "F" word and this book has a few. Not as many as many other modern books but enough for my tastes. It's a shame autho ...more

Based on the movie trailers for the movie adaptation of this book, I never would have thought in a million years that I’d read this book. Besides maybe Tetris, I don’t care for video games nor gamer culture.

I really loved this book, more than I thought I would. We were reading it for book club and I just wanted to finish it on my own time and I’m so glad I did! It is a world full of imagination and this writer knew his video games and has a very good imagination. Even if you don’t like videogames you should try to read this book because it is incredibly written. I also suggest listening to the audiobook because will Wheaton does a great job!
