I was somehow allowed to become an English teacher without ever reading this book. Now that I have, I think I was missing out! I absolutely loved it.
I was blown away by the authenticity of the adolescent voice of the narrator. Everything, from the style of the prose to the overuse of profanity all rang true (I teach junior high. Can't believe I never read this while I was in AP English. Lol, maybe I DID read it and just can't remember; there were a few times that felt sort of deja vu. But loved loved this book. Holden Caufield is absolutely and honestly hilarious. His open generalizations, talks with his sister, everything being either boring or depressing...just first rate IMHO. But, being an overly conservative madre, just don't know if I'd be ok with my teens reading it until they were like 90.
