Truly amazing and profound! The writing is beautiful. The story was heart renching. At times I wondered why I continued to read such a deeply painful novel, but where it could have been graphic it instead chose dignity and a touching rendition of a very important part of the Chechen people I new little about. I debated about giving this 4 stars, because the author rambled on just a BIT too long in a handful of paragraphs, but ultimately, this book deserves the 5 stars.
Over 5 days in harsh and stark winter in war-torn Chechnya, relationships are developed, tested, lost and sacrificed. This story is a testament to the beauty and complexity of love, hate, grief, and everything in between.
