This book is why I love historical fiction. Based on a real-life event, the author expertly transports us back to a time in Icelandic history when Agnes has been accused of murder and sent to live with a family while awaiting her execution. Superbly crafted, this book deserves to be read.
The writing is beautiful, the characters are real, and the story is captivating. It's hard to believe this is Hannah Kent's first novel. I look forward to reading anything of hers that comes next!
