This very timely book gives important insights into North Korean culture and politics. Shin was born and raised in a concentration camp and knew nothing of the outside world. His miraculous escape and journey to China and South Korea highlight his many challenges in adapting to a world he could never have imagined. It is a fascinating read that invokes many questions about our own country's foreign policy and responsibilities.
