Completely brilliant 5 stars for the splendiferous author, Angel Gelique, the character you create Hillary... manage to...tortured and disturbe, my heart...

This is unequivocally the most galling and sadistic book I have ever read. What's more perturbing is how engrossing it was and how much I actually enjoyed it.
This engaging story will have you on the edge of your seat one moment, rooting for some, only to have you despising them later.
The story line and characters are brilliantly thought out. It plays out like a horror movie of the worst kind. The mental images you are sure to conjure in your mind, will with out a doubt, haunt your dreams for som ...more

This being the first book of this type that I've read, I was a little squeamish.
I shouldn't have let that affect how I liked the story & the writing.

Tail of the Dog tells me this series will be something beyond the normal everyday horror fare. This is a dark tale that bring us to places we aren’t quite sure we want to go but can’t stop ourselves from exploring. Crazy!!!! I loved it!!! My sister told me about this book that everyone on GRs was talking about, so I got it. Read it in 8 hours. I could not put it down!!!! I was hooked from the beginning. It had me cringing and desperately gripping my blankie in a fetal position to protect myself from the unbelievably beautifully written psycho! Brilliant! As a horror author, I'm always looking to further my craft. Many authors are similar. For some, it's to develop their storytelling and for others it's improving characterisation. From a horror reader's perspective, I love when an author pushes the boundaries. The boundaries of taste and violence and sex. Some fail miserably, becoming exploitive in the process. However, there are a slim few who tread the line successfully. In the process, they may just create a book that shocks, awes and repulses As a horror author, I'm always looking to further my craft. Many authors are similar. For some, it's to develop their storytelling and for others it's improving characterisation. From a horror reader's perspective, I love when an author pushes the boundaries. The boundaries of taste and violence and sex. Some fail miserably, becoming exploitive in the process. However, there are a slim few who tread the line successfully. In the process, they may just create a book that shocks, awes and repulses but still commands respect.

Hillary: Tail of the Dog is one such book.

First of all, if you're squeamish, easily offended or disgusted by lashings of gore, you shouldn't read this. If you do, be warned: This book starts out nicely enough but at the 51% mark, the story turns on its head and becomes...I don't do spoilers, so enough of that. Needless to say, Hillary is bold, mature, violent, disgusting and very, very adult. It's a simple tale, one that's been done countless times before, but is handled in a uniquely macabre way by Angel Gelique. Hillary is fifteen, scared and trapped. As details filter into the story, we find she is being held in observation by three people, Dr Morrison and his wife, Monica, and Dr Bentley. Scarce at first, it soon becomes obvious that something more sinister and mysterious is afoot.

Hillary is a complex character in a bad situation. Some of the situations she goes through warrant concern from the reader. Much like her personality - again, no spoilers - Hillary is both loveable and loathsome in equal measure, sometimes bouncing from one to the other in a flash. Yes, she's a fifteen year old girl but sometimes you just want to punch her in the face. Seconds later, you'll feel for her before changing your mind once again. It should be exhaustive reading but it really isn't, generating attention and gravitas for a character who is flawed but also strangely magnetic.

At times, Hillary is not easy to read. Scenes of graphic - and I mean eye-squinting, leg-crossing, vomit-inducing - torture fill the pages. The story is phenomenal considering the basic premise. For a majority of the book the story is balanced between four characters. Effortlessly bouncing between Hillary and her captives/doctors, the tale never feels rushed. In fact, the story slow burns for the first half of the book, building an uneasy tension/relationship between the characters which soon becomes volatile and white-hot. By the time the 51% mark hits, the table is set for the finale, one that should stand in horror folklore for years to come. Trust me, even the hardest of horror fans will find these final pages difficult.

5* - Absolutely. Consider the boundaries pushed. I've read some graphic horror in my time and this one has shot to the top of the list...below one or two all time favourites. Hillary is a bold, graphic book with a purpose: To put gorno to shame and show horror readers just what can be done without a leash. Twisted, delightfully gory, intensely uncomfortable, and uniquely original. Hillary is one of those books that comes along every now and then and raises the bar. The only fault I found with it was the ending...but if it means we get to read more of this strangely enticing character then I can forgive it's abruptness. Bring on Volume 2.

Wow what a read.

This book comes with a warning of sexually deviant content including rape, torture and cannibalism so what does it say about me when I say it was fabulous?
Angel Gelique is a talented writer able to pull you into the story and keep you wanting more. After reading this I would pronounce her the queen of gore, there were scenes in this book that had even me cringing and I loved it. But the book was not all blood and guts there is an intriguing story that will have you questioning ...more

Again, what can I say but WOW! Just like the other book Hillary: Flesh and Blood, this is quite the page turner!!! It's my understanding this was written as kind of a prequel to the other, but for me, it made wonderful sense reading Flesh and Blood, then Tail of the Dog. Regardless, this is a completely twisted, sick, horrible story that I have absolutely loved! There is a third coming out in the fall. I can't wait to get it! Angel is amazing!
