I was seriously half-prepared not to like this book, although I could not tell you why that was. But, I did like it, loved it even. The writing was beautiful and the story was so broad and brilliant.

This is my kind of book. It's dense and meaty with no filler. The prose is sublime and the characters are vibrant. The plot is intricate and complex. Tartt has written a novel about Truth, Beauty, Love, and Why Art Matters, and the possibility of transcendence. It's not an easy novel and there's a lot of darkness and ugliness in it as well, but Tartt wraps it all in passages of luminous beauty and the final pages left me breathless.
