I could have sworn I wrote a long review of this book a while back when I first read it...but I guess not!

Fascinating, fascinating book about a first contact with an alien race. You see in flashbacks, from the discovery of the alien signal, the sending of a team, and the discoveries they make upon landing. The misunderstandings of such a different culture are there as they learn the ways of the not one but two major species on the planet.

I wonder if this book reads differently if you believe in god. Then, I wonder if if it reads differently if you decide to accept the existence of god within the book. In any case, I can't do either, so I found this an almost vicious indictment of religion. ...more

Auch bei der zweiten Lektüre gut 20 Jahre später immer noch ein faszinierender Roman über die Suche nach dem Glauben. Nur an Ende ging mir dann doch irgendwie alles zu schnell.
